Who is it for?

Who is osteopathy for?

At the Habsheim practice, I welcome patients of different ages and backgrounds: infants, children, teenagers, adults, older adults, pregnant women and sportspeople.

Each consultation is adapted to the person, their age, their reason for visiting and their daily circumstances. The aim is to offer individual, consistent and comfortable care.

Important. Osteopathy does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. The concerns described below are common reasons for consulting, not medical conditions that the practice claims to treat.

An acute, persistent or unusual symptom, or a symptom in an infant, should first be assessed by a medical professional.

01 · Who we welcome

Infants and pregnant women

Pregnancy brings postural changes and tension that may affect everyday comfort. Osteopathy consultations may support these adaptations alongside the medical care provided by a doctor or midwife.

Discomfort in the lower back and sacral area, or reduced hip mobility, is common during pregnancy and after childbirth.

Manual care aims to support comfort and mobility, never to treat a medical condition. For severe or persistent pain, or suggestive symptoms such as sciatica or cruralgia, consult your doctor first.

An osteopathy consultation for an infant may be considered after birth with the aim of supporting comfort and mobility.

Neck stiffness, a preference for turning the head to one side or abdominal tension are sometimes raised during consultations. Colic, gastro-oesophageal reflux and breastfeeding difficulties should first be assessed by a paediatrician: osteopathy does not treat these conditions or replace medical care.

02 · Who we welcome

Children

Childhood involves play, falls and growth. These experiences may be accompanied by temporary stiffness or tension that sometimes causes discomfort.

Children may not always describe their discomfort clearly, but may feel they can no longer run as fast or play as they did before.

An osteopathy consultation can address these sensations through a gentle approach, alongside the child’s usual medical care.

03 · Who we welcome

Teenagers

During adolescence, long periods spent sitting, particularly at school, and more intense sporting activity may be accompanied by tension.

Some teenagers describe feeling less at ease in their sport, back discomfort, a feeling of restricted movement or muscle fatigue.

These concerns can be discussed during a consultation, without any promise of results or improved performance.

As with younger children, some recent falls or injuries should first be assessed by a medical professional.

04 · Who we welcome

Adults

Work often influences posture and places repeated demands on the body.

Long periods sitting in front of a screen may be accompanied by discomfort around the neck and upper back, or the lower back and sacral area. Repetitive hand movements may be associated with wrist discomfort.

These concerns can be discussed during a consultation, using a manual approach focused on comfort and mobility. Osteopathy does not provide a medical diagnosis or treat the medical conditions underlying these symptoms.

Physically demanding manual work may be accompanied by stiffness and tension that affect everyday life.

Osteopathic care may be considered alongside medical care, without replacing it or promising a return to work.

05 · Who we welcome

Older adults

With age, some persistent discomfort and joint restrictions can make activities less comfortable. A consultation may offer manual support focused on mobility and comfort, alongside medical care and without replacing it.

Some conditions, such as osteoarthritis, involve stiffness that may affect everyday life. An osteopathy consultation does not aim to treat these conditions but may support the person in coordination with their doctor.

Sportspeople

Sport, particularly when intense or repetitive, may be accompanied by muscle tension and feelings of stiffness.

Previous injuries or surgery may leave areas of discomfort.

An osteopathy consultation may be considered to support comfort and mobility, without promising improved performance or replacing medical care or physiotherapy.
